This is really good news for us Tribbox owners. Ok, first thing first: What is MoMoLight? MoMolight is a homebrew alternative for what is seen on Philips Ambilight TV's. It lights up the background with the dominant colors of the screen. It's devided to left and right side of the screen. Watching TV will never be the same again! Photo's say more than thousand words, read on to see what Ambilight and MoMoLight look like. First off is the explaination of Philips Ambilight: Pretty neat huh? That's what the brave members of a Dutch tech forum also thought. It all started with testing of methods to measure the dominant colors of the screen and how to output this properly. As the suggestions, experience and development continued RafkeP was the first one who had a working prototype. Complete with a driver for (a pretty exotic) media player MoMoLight saw the light (no phun intended). RafkeP released a complete how to on Divxstation for die-hard tweakers. After the success of the how-to RafkeP released a limited ready-to-build package, with complete PCB and parts. I was one of the happy few who got my hands on one of the MoMoLights. The test setup of MoMoLight on my laptop playing "Bastian - you got my love" Why is this good news for Tribbox owners? Originally there is only a driver for a media player (BSPlayer, Zoomplayer & Mediaportal). BobLight (also founded in the Tweaker forums) is a driver which measures the dominant color of any screen. Yes, this makes MoMoLight compatible with your desktop, game or your favorite media player on your Windows XP system (not Vista Aero compatible) Today, the news is, that a new release of BobLight is out and it runs on Linux! This is great news for us Tribbox owners. I can not wait to try it on my Tribbox. Not only I can not imagine me watching a movie without MoMolight anymore, other than that I still struggle with the compatibility of BobLight with Vista (my current MCE) and looking forward to a complete solution. The days of my Vista MCE days are counted! The first test results will follow later! |
